Class Summary

This course is designed for the dentist who wants to excel in their photography skills for amazing dental photography and use those skills to help transform their patients smiles with exquisite composite resin bonding. Photography is essential to treating cosmetic dental cases of any type and necessary to educate your patient to complete the treatment. The seminar will review the proper settings for advanced photography with American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) standards and beyond. The seminar will cover proper camera setup, obtaining quality pictures, proper lighting, portraits, storage and protection of your photos, in office usage and camera maintenance. These skills will be utilized immediately as you learn through hands-on exercises how to treat a Class IV incisal repair, learn to create proper tooth anatomy in a full composite veneer and learn various techniques to give the restoration it’s final polish that disappears in the patient’s mouth.

Participants are encouraged to bring their dental photography set-up, magnifying loupes, and a desire to take their photography and composite bonding skills to the next level.

After completing the course, you will:

  1. Understand your camera and know how to take outstanding photographs suitable for framing and profitability.
  2. Learn how to build composite coloration into the restoration utilizing different composite shades and opacities to achieve the natural looking results the patient expects.
  3. Learn how to properly finish and polish your restoration for proper function and optimal esthetics.
Class Overview/Schedule

Day 1

  • Lecture and Hands-on:
  1. Understanding the basics of photography
  2. Learn how to take the necessary extra and intra-oral photos, camera settings and proper patient positioning.
  3. Taking photos with proper exposure, storage of photos, and use chairside
  4. Fabricate a direct resin veneer to learn proper form, function, anatomy and polishing.
  5. Work on the essentials of layering composite to proper thickness
  6. Develop a proper finishing protocol
  7. Develop a properly polished composite surface
  8. Place secondary facial anatomy
  9. Place tertiary facial anatomy


Day 2

  • Lecture and Hands-on:

Preparation of a Class IV repair and composite repair

  1. Place the proper bevel on the tooth
  2. Fabricate the putty matrix
  3. Finish, polish and texture veneers
  4. Material selection to layer dentin and enamel composite colors, use of opaquer and tints.
  5. Finish and polish the restoration
  6. Finish up composite resin from the morning exercise
  7. Tricks and tips to enhance composites

Photography proper lighting, after portraits, additional photos, camera maintenance

He is also a registered Nikon Professional having completed the process through Nikon Professional Services. Dr. Peck is a third-generation dentist practicing in Cincinnati, OH for over 30 years. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Peck a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a Koiscenter graduate, Dawson Academy graduate and a mentor for Cerecdoctors.com. He has published numerous articles and presented topics at many dental meetings on cosmetic dentistry, dental lab communication and direct resin bonding including hands-on seminars. Dr. Peck’s hobby is landscape photography.
