Not every patient can afford porcelain, and most people don't want their teeth "drilled-down." Composite provides fully functional restorations, adding length to teeth that have worn down or are congenitally too small. This course focuses on exactly how to build restorations to preserve healthy tooth structure with transitional bonding, including designing the smile and the occlusion so the patient looks great and the treatment lasts for many years.
This virtual hands-on course will prepare you to immediately be able to help more patients with simple or severe problems. You will even learn why composite is an easier and better option for bruxers and non-compliant patients.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
-
Design the "best smile" for each patient and create a treatment plan using a practical system based on calculations rather than artistic talent.
-
Learn the critical tooth contours to master the most natural look.
-
Use a simple hands-on technique to create smooth margins, ideal interproximal contacts, and a surface that resists stains.
Hands-on exercises
-
A large Class IV to learn adaptation of composite, utilizing a template, creating an ideal proximal surface and contact with the Mylar pull technique, and contouring. (Viade 6-tooth model with nonesthetic - natural teeth)
-
Making and trimming a template (putty index or matrix)
-
Adding length to worn teeth including anterior guidance on incisors and canines; understand how to check and adjust occlusion for longevity with normal function (upper stone model)
schedule Day 1:
-
Introduction and rationale for composite vs. porcelain, why composite is more ideal in many ways than porcelain for restoring wear and building anterior guidance for long-term function
-
Prep design for conserving tooth structure and creating invisible margins
-
Hands-on exercise - a very conservative prep, using the template (putty index) properly, efficient handling of composite, contouring and polishing
-
Design the "best possible smile" for any patient using the Esthetic Zone Rations (EZR) Method.
-
Hands-on exercise - fabricate a template for our Day 2 exercise
-
One-on-one sessions
SCHEDULE DAY 2:
-
Critical tooth contours so anterior teeth never look like chicklets
-
Clinical guidance for setting up a functional occlusion and how to build anterior guidance intraorally to protect posterior teeth
-
Hands-on exercise - a very conservative prep, using the template fabricated on Day 1, efficient step-by-step technique to restore wear and build length, contouring and polishing
-
Promoting value to patients, how to communicate the wax-up to the lab to maximize esthetics and efficiency of treatment
-
One-on-one sessions
